Early Childhood Services
Quality materials and services are provided throughout the
Greater St. Louis area through the Channel 9 Early Childhood service.
The goal of this service is to ensure that all children start school
with the basic skills necessary to make their educational experience
a success. KETC accomplishes this through award-winning programs
such as Arthur , Clifford the Big Red Dog , Reading
Rainbow and Sesame Street , and workshops that model
the use of this quality programming along with hands-on activities
and books.

educators and caregivers.
Impact
KETC was one of 20 public television stations chosen to
participate in a national PBS impact study to measure the effects
of our education workshops on parents and educators, and the children
in their care. Findings from this study indicate that parents
and educators who attended a KETC education workshop:
- Were more likely to discuss a program with the children
in their care while watching.
- Were more likely to discuss characters from a program
with their children and view
the program with their children.
- Were more likely to do activities and read a book with
their children in their care related
to a program watched.
- 57 percent of parents are still reading to their children
at least once a day six months
after attending a workshop
KETC is proud to be part of the Mayor's Summit on Early Childhood
Success.
Working in the community is important to us, and KETC staff work
to develop strong partnerships with area schools, education agencies,
and community and civic organizations. If you would like more
information about KETC's Early Childhood Services, or about bringing
a workshop to your setting, please contact Dale Berenc, manager
of education services at (314)-512-9138 or dberenc@ketc.org
