Rebuilding St. Louis grew out
of KETC's dedication to bringing light to new and interesting
happenings in our area. In neighborhoods throughout St. Louis
home construction, both rehab and new, along with community building,
is in full swing. Viewers have told us how much they love programs
like Hometime and This Old House . Rebuilding St. Louis provides
a fun how-to approach to the home rehab and revitalization process
told at a depth not found elsewhere.
Home Builders Association of
Greater St. Louis is Channel 9's enthusiastic partner
for the Rebuilding St. Louis project. By lending their expertise,
the HBA is using their mission of fostering growth in the St.
Louis housing industry to showcase an underserved but vital
part of their organization-St. Louis city builders and developers
and the neighborhoods they seek to revitalize.
What Can Viewers Expect?
A how-to with context. Rebuilding St. Louis tells why the Tower Grove South
neighborhood and other city neighborhoods like it are viable communities.
Follow along as Channel 9 shows what it takes to rehabilitate a residence
and learn how it is contributing to an already vibrant community thriving
in the heart of St. Louis city.
Developer
Susie Gudermuth is a veteran developer in the Tower Grove Heights neighborhood
and the founder of Tower
Grove Homes, Inc. Over the past 22 years she has acquired more than
40 rental units and renovated 20 single-family homes.
The Renovation
The Capistrano, a property at 3905 Utah St. in the Grand Oak Hill neighborhood,
is currently a three-story, 21-unit apartment building constructed in 1924.
Renovation of the property will transform the building into
five condominium apartments with:

Rebuilding St. Louis will follow Unit 3, one of the four-bedroom
units, from start to finish.
Historical aspects of the building will be preserved and restored
including the shell and interior and exterior architectural details.
Additions to the existing structure include decks and balconies.
Interior renovations include:
- Two-by-four construction on interior and exterior walls to
allow for insulation, wiring, plumbing, hanging drywall and
room configuration
- Large kitchen on the first floor with a mini-kitchen on the
third floor
- Four full baths and one half-bath
- Master bedroom suite with interior and exterior balcony
- Three additional bedrooms
- Family room on the second floor with an interior balcony
overlooking the living room
- Third-floor solarium
- Skylights
- Interior covered patio
- Restored marble staircase with metal balusters and oak railing
- Generous storage
- New hardwood flooring and carpeting
- Ceramic tile in kitchens, baths, interior patio and third-floor
solarium
- All new systems including:
