This program looks at how the St. Louis community is trying to
address caring for the uninsured and how a group of medical students
is trying to plant the seeds for tomorrow's doctors.
Rescuing the Safety Net: When the City of St. Louis lost its public
hospital, the Regional Health Commission and others went into action.
They have managed to piece together a system of care for the under-
and uninusured. It is a system that is working at some levels, but
seeks improvement. We visit a city clinic to see how they are functioning
with a family who depends on this system.

Tomorrow's doctors: A group of Washington University medical students
is going into schools in low-income neighborhoods to teach kids
about science and medicine. The idea is to help these children become
more informed at an early age about the importance of taking care
of their own health, and also to inspire them to become doctors
or nurses when they grow up. We visit the classroom to get a peak
at these unique science lessons and talk to the children and medical
students. This pilot program could be expanded if it is successful.
