EPISODE #3 :
Improving Patient Care in Hospitals

There is a quiet revolution mounting in health care to put the focus on person-centered care. This program highlights Missouri hospitals that are improving patient care.

BJC, St. Louis' largest hospital, is one of a growing number of hospitals taking part in a national quality improvement program called Surgical Infection Prevention.

It involves standardizing the administration of antibiotics in elective surgical procedures to prevent infection.

Sac-Osage Hospital is a 40-bed hospital in rural Osceola, MO. On the verge of closing due to poor quality/quantity of services, a new administrator transformed the facility with more doctors, specialists, improved services and facilities, and has changed the emphasis from inpatient to outpatient services resulting in restored community confidence in the hospital.
