EPISODE #2 :
Caring for the Elderly |
PLAY EPISODE
With the aging Baby Boom population, caring for the elderly will
continue to be a growing part of the health care industry. In this
program, we look at how Missouri health care providers are adapting
to meet the needs of this population.
Adult Day Care is a cost-effective and valuable option for helping
care for healthy or mildly-infirmed seniors. We visit the Red Cross
Adult Day Care in South St. Louis, where Marcella Belosi passes
the day playing word search, dancing and visiting with other seniors.

While she is still able to live alone, her family has taken this
intermediate step to get her the daily activity and enrichment she
needs to thrive.
Nursing Homes are often in the news for negative reasons; patient
abuse and neglect or a facility closing due to lack of funding.
This program looks at the positive changes in nursing homes through
a facility in Kansas City driven by the patient-centered care philosophy.
Giving residents more choices and flexibility in their routines
help make things feel more like home. The mountain of regulations
in the nursing home industry adds to the challenge of redesign.
