ACTION ALERT!

Watch KETC's Patrick Murphy discuss the issue.

Thank You for Your Support!

The House of Representatives voted to restore $100 million in federal funding for public broadcasting. Eighty-six Republicans joined 196 Democrats and 1 Independent in supporting an amendment put forward by Representatives David Obey, Nita Lowey and Jim Leach to restore the FY 2006 CPB funding level to $400 million.

Thank you for letting Congress know how important public broadcasting is to you. Our victory is a major achievement, and a real testament to your commitment. Without your calls, letters and face-to-face visits, we would not have achieved the success we enjoy today.

While we have much to take pride in, our fight is far from over. The House did not restore funding for Ready To Learn, CPB Digital and Interconnection. We don’t know the fate of Ready To Teach – its funding will be determined only in the final conference report – but we cannot assume it will be sufficient. We will have to look to the Senate again to restore funding for these programs and preserve it during the conference process.

Our great outreach has achieved a major victory, and we have momentum moving forward. Earlier this morning we got this report from a staffer on the Senate Appropriations Committee:

“Your folks are doing a tremendous job of getting your message through to Senate offices. We’ve heard from a number of senators already. This will be of tremendous help when we set funding levels in the Senate. Keep it up!”

The Senate Labor-HHS-Education mark up, which includes funding for CPB, is scheduled for July 14.

Thanks to all who called your member of congress. They got the message!!!
