A Raisin in the Sun Performance

What: The Center Stage Theatre of St. Charles Community College will present the classic play “A Raisin in the Sun” March 3-7 in the Donald D. Shook Fine Arts Building theater on the SCC campus.
“A Raisin in the Sun” shows the tragic impact of American history on a black family residing in Chicago in the 1950s. The play is based on the book by Lorraine Hansberry and will be directed by Hal Berry, SCC professor of history and theater.

The Idiotarod
|
|
What: The Idiotarod pays homage to the Alaskan tradition of the Iditarod in which dogs pull a sled and musher across the Iditarod Trail. Our event is similar, except replace the dogs with people and the sled with a shopping cart, put it in downtown St. Louis, and add a heavy dose of weirdness. Teams of five people will venture throughout downtown hitting checkpoints and completing challenges to continue and win prizes. Teams will have a theme that is reflective of their cart and costumes. The date is set for March 5th & 6th, in admiration of the Alaskan Iditarod, and the race will go on regardless of rain, sleet, snow, ice, wind, or hail. One of the challenges includes collecting food for a local charity-Operation Food Search. March 5th is the corporate Idiotarod and March 6th is the open Idiotarod. Lumiere Place will be hosting the award ceremony and after-party.

The Run starts on Broadway at the site of the proposed Ball Park Village, then proceeds north on Broadway & winds through the streets of downtown, finally culminating with a 500 meter downhill sprint to the finish at approximately Market and Broadway. Kemp Auto Museum Austin-Healy Exhibit

What: The Kemp Auto Museum is proud to have been selected by the Gateway Austin-Healey Club to present a display in the Museum beginning in February, 2010. Austin-Healey automobiles from various St. Louis area collectors, ranging from the model first produced in 1953 to the last model produced in 1967, will be displayed in two groups. The first group will be on display from February 21 through March 13, 2010. The second group of collectors' cars will then arrive and be on display at the Kemp Auto Museum through April 4, 2010. The Museum will also host an “All Austin-Healey” Show on their outdoor Sachs Plaza on Sunday, May 16, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., with cars and collectors participating from across Missouri, as well as from nearby states.

This exhibit contains extremely accurate documentation of the new world this group of Jesuits entered as they crossed cultural, linguistic, and religious divides. Of significant importance are the sketches and water colors of Nicholas Point, S.J., and the Moses Linton album, a chronicle of the work and travels of Pierre De Smet, S.J. Daniel McGrath: What Pictures Want
|
|
What: What Pictures Want is an ongoing series of text based paintings based on W.J.T. Mitchell’s hypothesis that pictures must be considered living things that communicate and have desires, as outlined in his essay “What Do Pictures Want?” from 2005. These paintings' desires in short, are to trade places with the beholder turning him or her into an image for the gaze of the picture. A generic font and an anonymous value scale of black and white, both are nearly ubiquitous in our visual landscape today. Zeroing in on some of the more outrageous statements made in these books, each painting conveys a statement in the form of a dryly written vinyl didactic panel.

After being air lifted to St. Louis University Hospital, Anthony was in the Intensive Care Unit until Tuesday, February 23. He is now out of the ICU and recovering well. What: When he was 17, Michael Knight left his mother's home in Rochester to study Islam at a Pakistani madrassa. Years later, burned out on the demands of religious dogma, Mike rebelled once more--by penning a Muslim Punk manifesto called The Taqwacores. His work of fiction struck a chord with young Muslims around the world and before long, real-life Taqwacore bands were creating a scene. This film follows Michael and his band of Muslim punks as they journey across the U.S. and Pakistan.

What: Join us for Sharon's Ride.Run.Walk for Epilepsy! Form a team and ask friends to participate by making a donation to the Epilepsy Foundation! Sharon Rosenfeld was a nurse and teacher, who cared deeply about epilepsy. She was killed on a cross-country bicycle ride in 1993. Dr. William Rosenfeld & Dr. Susan Lippmann, neurologists in St. Louis who specialize in epilepsy, created the event to honor the memory of Dr. Rosenfeld's sister. All money raised goes directly to the Epilepsy Foundation of the St. Louis Region.

Kids ArtStart

What: The Rep hosts Kids ArtStart, a free art event, on the first Saturday of each month from October through April. Each Kids ArtStart event gives young children an introduction to the arts in an event that allows families to share the arts experience.
