The Idiotarod
What: The Idiotarod pays homage to the Alaskan tradition of the Iditarod in which dogs pull a sled and musher across the Iditarod Trail. Our event is similar, except replace the dogs with people and the sled with a shopping cart, put it in downtown St. Louis, and add a heavy dose of weirdness. Teams of five people will venture throughout downtown hitting checkpoints and completing challenges to continue and win prizes. Teams will have a theme that is reflective of their cart and costumes. The date is set for March 5th & 6th, in admiration of the Alaskan Iditarod, and the race will go on regardless of rain, sleet, snow, ice, wind, or hail. One of the challenges includes collecting food for a local charity-Operation Food Search. March 5th is the corporate Idiotarod and March 6th is the open Idiotarod. Tim Curtis: See How My Mind Works
What: “Writing requires collaboration with the reader and both are private acts. But encountering someone’s private thoughts in a public space changes the dynamic,” states artist Tim Curtis. In See How My Mind Works, Tim Curtis explores the use of language and text in concert with visual art. He presents an ever-evolving body of work utilizing text on chalkboards that function as object within a fine art context. The walls of the gallery will be blanketed with handmade chalkboards from floor to ceiling. The visual sensation of multiple chalkboards will surround the viewer with the voices of Tim’s internal dialogue.

NBC's Phenomenon Mike Super at the Touhill
What: Mike Super will not only take the stage at the Touhill on Saturday, March 6, he’ll take the entire Anheuser-Busch Performance Hall and turn it into a virtual snow globe. Showtime is 8 p.m. for his St. Louis debut performance. While the audience experiences snow within the theater, Mike Super will devote this “trick” to his mom who loved snow. This is an example of how the 2007 winner of NBC’s Phenomenon connects with his audience. With such connections, enchanting audiences with his personality, humor and spectacular illusions, Super stood out from the Phenomenon competition. And his explanation for the broad appeal is that he creates performances with movies in mind, in the sense they evoke emotion.

Alton Little Theater: Over the Tavern
What: Tom Dudzick's beguiling family comedy is just what the doctor ordered. Set in Buffalo, its story carries us back to that most idealized period of 20th Century America, the Eisenhower years of the 1950s, and introduces us to the Pazinskis: Mom, Dad and their four children, Eddie, Annie, Georgie and the hero of our tale, 12-year-old Rudy, a precocious kid who is starting to question family values and the Roman Catholic Church. He believes God put us on earth to "have fun," and he's trying to figure out why his family isn't having any.

Daniel McGrath: What Pictures Want
What: What Pictures Want is an ongoing series of text based paintings based on W.J.T. Mitchell’s hypothesis that pictures must be considered living things that communicate and have desires, as outlined in his essay “What Do Pictures Want?” from 2005. These paintings' desires in short, are to trade places with the beholder turning him or her into an image for the gaze of the picture. A generic font and an anonymous value scale of black and white, both are nearly ubiquitous in our visual landscape today. Zeroing in on some of the more outrageous statements made in these books, each painting conveys a statement in the form of a dryly written vinyl didactic panel.
