A Raisin in the Sun Performance
What: The Center Stage Theatre of St. Charles Community College will present the classic play “A Raisin in the Sun” March 3-7 in the Donald D. Shook Fine Arts Building theater on the SCC campus. “A Raisin in the Sun” shows the tragic impact of American history on a black family residing in Chicago in the 1950s. The play is based on the book by Lorraine Hansberry and will be directed by Hal Berry, SCC professor of history and theater.

Beverly Fishman at Bruno David Gallery  
What: Beverly Fishman delves into the cultural implications and consequences of pharmaceutical overload while enticing the audience with the pills' sleek visual seductiveness. The Pharmako sculptures evoke the overt appeal of the chemical compounds frequently used to alter our minds and bodies. Fishman's Xanadu Series of chrome pill sculptures takes the seduction and inclusion of the viewer to another level with gleaming exteriors that mask their dangerous possibilities.

Mardi Gras Mambo  
What: The annual Mardi Gras Mambo tour is hitting 11 cities this year and features The Neville Brothers with Dr. John and The Lower 911. Defining the deep soul of New Orleans, the tour is almost as legendary as New Orleans itself. And this distinctive joint concert of The Neville Brothers and Dr. John will put each groups’ musical gifts of rock, funk, blues and swamp boogie on display. This is a much-anticipated tour that garners great reviews. Last year Terry Perkins of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch called the concert “an evening of classic music that certainly set a high standard for any other performances this Mardi Gras season.”

H.I.S. K.I.D.S., Inc Dinner Auction  
What: H.I.S. K.I.D.S., Inc. (Happiness Is Serving Kids In Distress Situations), a non-profit organization serving families affected by childhood cancer, is hosting their 15th Annual Dinner Auction. H.I.S. K.I.D.S. has been serving families of children with cancer in the St. Louis Metropolitan area for over 25 years since 1984, providing family support and preservation, youth and teen programs, bereavement support, and emergency assistance. Marlissa Hudson's St. Louis Symphony Debut

Open Auditions for "Isn't It Romantic"

Arianna String Quartet to Perfrom "Revolution!"  
What: The Arianna String Quartet (ASQ), recognized as one of America’s finest chamber ensembles will perform Revolution!, Beethoven’s complete Op. 18 Quartets. This third concert in the quartet’s 2009-10 four-show series at the Touhill Performing Arts Center is on Friday, February 20. Rounding out the quartet of highly accomplished musicians are violinists John McGrosso and David Gillham. Formed in 1992, ASQ is the quartet-in-residence at the University of Missouri–St. Louis and has been hailed as one of the cultural gems of the St. Louis region by Sarah Bryan Miller of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Free Tax Clinic  
What: Harris-Stowe State University and the Anheuser-Busch School of Business proudly announces its free tax clinic, from February 1-April 15, 2010. The free tax service is extended to any and everyone interested in having their 2009 taxes prepared by certified volunteers, under the supervision of Quintin Davis, CPA, accounting instructor at Harris-Stowe, and Owolabi Tiamiyu, assistant professor of business administration. Additional CPAs will be on hand to advise. While the HSSU tax clinic is open to everyone, it uniquely caters to international individuals and families, the elderly and low-to-moderate income households. Those who have a household income of $50,000 or less will be given priority service.

Poetic Palette: The Paintings of Ann Brown
What: The works on view have a musical quality to them. They contain rhythm and in many ways resemble the visual analogy of a poem. Rendered in imaginative and broad-ranging color combinations, Ann Brown’s paintings depict forms of nature that feature shapes that symbolize man’s more spiritual and mental quests.

That Uppity Theater Company

The Idiotarod  
What: The Idiotarod pays homage to the Alaskan tradition of the Iditarod in which dogs pull a sled and musher across the Iditarod Trail. Our event is similar, except replace the dogs with people and the sled with a shopping cart, put it in downtown St. Louis, and add a heavy dose of weirdness. Teams of five people will venture throughout downtown hitting checkpoints and completing challenges to continue and win prizes. Teams will have a theme that is reflective of their cart and costumes. The date is set for March 5th & 6th, in admiration of the Alaskan Iditarod, and the race will go on regardless of rain, sleet, snow, ice, wind, or hail. One of the challenges includes collecting food for a local charity-Operation Food Search. March 5th is the corporate Idiotarod and March 6th is the open Idiotarod. Lumiere Place will be hosting the award ceremony and after-party.

What: The Little Sisters of the Poor – St. Louis Home will be hosting our annual Lenten weekly evenings of service and prayer. What: The operetta H.M.S. Pinafore, presented by the renowned New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players, drops anchor in St. Louis February 20 and 21 at The Touhill Performing Arts Center. Multimedia Gallery Experience with Kip Fulbeck  
What: Begin the evening with a screening of director Paul Devlin's film Slam Nation which follows the National Poetry Slam in Portland, Oregon. Then artist, slam poet, and filmmaker Kip Fulbeck, who artistically explores the meaning of racial identity for those whose ethnic backgrounds do not fit into one neat category, makes an appearance. One of his most lasting contributions to the national discussion on race and identity is The Hapa Project, an exhibition (and book) featuring more than 1,200 portraits and the answer to his question: What are you? Kemp Auto Museum Austin-Healy Exhibit
What: The Kemp Auto Museum is proud to have been selected by the Gateway Austin-Healey Club to present a display in the Museum beginning in February, 2010. Austin-Healey automobiles from various St. Louis area collectors, ranging from the model first produced in 1953 to the last model produced in 1967, will be displayed in two groups. The first group will be on display from February 21 through March 13, 2010. The second group of collectors' cars will then arrive and be on display at the Kemp Auto Museum through April 4, 2010. The Museum will also host an “All Austin-Healey” Show on their outdoor Sachs Plaza on Sunday, May 16, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., with cars and collectors participating from across Missouri, as well as from nearby states.

St Louis Bandits Host Career Day on Ice

FIRST FLL Double Decker Bus Tour in Loop  
What: The FIRST FLL (For the Recognition of Science and Technology – First Lego League) is hosting the Alexander Dennis Double-Decker Bus Tours, which are available in the University City Loop District. The bus is being brought to University City by the Brittany Woods team in support of their related project. In addition to designing and building a robot, each team was expected to identify a problem in their community (traffic congestion, fuel consumption, air quality, and pedestrian safety) in the University City Business District - the Loop) and then propose a solution. The theme of this year's competition was "Smart Moves" and the transportation solution the students selected was the double decker bus. The students researched bus companies, and selected Alexander Dennis.

"Love Me Always" A Photography Exhibit  
What: A testament to love, commitment, involvement, cohesion, and strong-bonding- this photography exhibit is based on a children's book by photographer, Odell Mitchell Jr., his wife Linda and their two children, Aviva and Mickey, called "Love Me Always, A Photographic Celebration of African-American Children From Birth to College." Because Odell is a professional photographer, his kids could not excape being in front of the camera while growing up. While this exhibit is focused on an African-American family, the photographs transcend racial boundaries and can impact and appeal to all people.

Crossing the Divide: Jesuits on the Frontier
What: The Saint Louis University Museum of Art is pleased to present Crossing the Divide: Jesuits on the American Frontier. The exhibition opens with a reception on Friday evening, February 26, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Crossing the Divide will be displayed in the Judith and Adam Aronson Gallery until June 27, 2010. This exhibit contains extremely accurate documentation of the new world this group of Jesuits entered as they crossed cultural, linguistic, and religious divides. The exhibition displays dictionaries of Native-American languages; as well as extremely accurate maps and detailed journals. Of significant importance are the sketches and water colors of Nicholas Point, S.J., and the Moses Linton album, a chronicle of the work and travels of Pierre De Smet, S.J. This album is on display for the first time.

MONOPOLY Trading Game Tournament
What: MONOPOLY Trading Game Tournament officially sanctioned by Hasbro. Games will be played for 90 minutes using the official long game rules. Players will play at least 2 rounds of MONOPOLY. Assets from the 2 games will be added together and the top 6 players will compete in a final round. Prizes are awarded to the finalists and $250 Grand Prize is awarded to the tournament winner. Lunch is included in registration fee. There is a $5 discount on any registrations paid by 1/31/10.

Support Dogs' 5th Annual Tacky Ball
What: Support Dogs will host its fifth annual "Tacky Ball" with this year's theme "Canine Carnaval!" The evening will include entertainment by The Fabulous Motown Review, as well as live and silent auctions. Proceeds from the Tacky Ball will benefit all programs and activities at Support Dogs.

Kids ArtStart
What: The Rep hosts Kids ArtStart, a free art event, on the first Saturday of each month from October through April. Each Kids ArtStart event gives young children an introduction to the arts in an event that allows families to share the arts experience. Each event takes place at the Loretto-Hilton Center in Webster Groves with local arts organizations and members of the artistic community partnering in the presentations.
